Indoor Air Quality
Breathe easier with cleaner, healthier air in your home.
Expert solutions to improve indoor air quality
Did you know that the air inside your home can be five times more polluted than the air outside? That’s a big problem, especially as most people spend 90% of their time indoors.
Dust, mould, pet dander, chemicals from furniture, smoke, cooking fumes, and everyday pollution all get trapped inside your home. If you or your family suffer from allergies, asthma, or have constant sniffles, a lack of home air purification could be to blame.
Smarter Air & Electrical is here to help. We supply and install high-quality air purifiers to suit all homes and workplaces. From standalone air purifiers to whole-home purification systems, split system air purifiers, and dehumidifiers, we’ve got a solution to clean up the air you breathe.
The importance of good IAQ
Risks and health benefits
Poor indoor air quality isn’t just unpleasant. It can make you and your family sick.
Poor Air Quality Risks
Allergies and Asthma
Dust mites, pollen, pet dander, and other indoor air pollutants float through the air and settle on surfaces in your home. Every time you breathe them in, they can trigger sneezing, itchy eyes, congestion, or full-blown asthma attacks. Mould spores can also make asthma worse.
Breathing issues
Poor indoor air quality usually means you’re inhaling fine dust, fumes, and airborne chemicals that irritate your lungs. If your home has poor ventilation, CO₂ levels rise. This makes the air feel stuffy and harder to breathe.
Headaches and fatigue
Stale air and chemical fumes (from cleaning products, furniture, and cooking) can cause brain fog, dizziness, and tiredness. Too much COâ‚‚ in a room can make you feel sluggish and drained.
Sleep problems
Breathing in allergens, dust, and mould spores overnight can lead to a blocked nose, coughing, or restless sleep. High humidity adds to the problem, making the air feel damp and uncomfortable.
Long-term health risks
If you’re constantly exposed to indoor air pollution, the effects can build up over time. Fine particles and chemicals in the air can increase the risk of lung disease, heart issues, and even cognitive decline.
Benefits of improved indoor air quality
Breathe easier
Fresh, clean air makes every breath feel lighter. No more dust or pollutants clogging up your lungs. Just crisp, refreshing air that feels good to inhale.
Feel better every day
When the air in your home is clean, your body doesn’t have to constantly fight off allergens or pollution. That means fewer sniffles, less irritation, and a healthier, more comfortable home.
Sleep soundly
Clean air helps your body relax, reduces congestion, and keeps the air feeling fresh all night. That means deeper, more restful sleep, so you wake up feeling properly recharged.
Stay energised and focused
Good air quality keeps oxygen levels where they should be. Think better concentration, fewer afternoon slumps, and more energy to get things done.
A healthier home for your family
Less dust, mould, and bacteria in the air means fewer germs spreading around. A cleaner home supports stronger immune systems, fewer sick days, and better long-term health.

How to monitor indoor air quality
If you don’t measure it, you can’t fix it.
The first step to cleaner air is knowing what’s floating around inside your home. That’s where air quality monitors come in. These devices track pollutants in real-time, so you can spot problems before they affect your health.
Below, you can explore two great options that we recommend:
Uhoo – Indoor Air Quality Monitor
Uhoo is a compact, plug-and-play air quality monitor. It tracks nine key air quality factors. And it does it all in real-time. It picks up on invisible pollutants and sends alerts when something’s off. Here’s what it tracks:
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Air Pressure
- Carbon Dioxide (COâ‚‚)
- PM2.5 (fine dust and allergens)
- VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds)
- Carbon Monoxide (CO)
- Ozone (O₃)
The Uhoo standalone monitor gives you a full breakdown of your home’s air quality in an easy-to-read app. It can help you spot hidden problems so you can take action, whether that means improving ventilation, updgrading filtration or using an air purifier. It’s ideal for bedrooms, living areas, or offices where air quality matters the most.
Milieu Climate – Ducted AC controller
Milieu Climate works to keep every room in your more home comfortable whilst allowing you to control ducted air conditioining system & monitor your indoor air quality from their convenient mobile apps. It automatically adjusts temperature, reduces humidity, and monitors the below indoor air quality properties in real-time:
- CO2
- VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds)
- Humidity
- Temperature
- Light
- Pressure
- Sound
As you learn more about the indoor air quality in you can then look into solutions to solve those problems such as improving filtration or installing an air purifier such as the APCO-X.
Tips for improving indoor air quality
Good air quality doesn’t just happen. You have to make it happen. The good news? It’s easier than you think. With a few simple changes, you can clear out pollutants, reduce allergens, and create a fresher, healthier home. Here’s how:
01.
Let fresh air in
Open windows whenever your air conditioning is off. Even just 10–15 minutes a day can flush out trapped CO₂, moisture, and stale air. If outdoor air pollution is a problem, use an air purification system instead.
02.
Control Humidty Levels
Too much moisture encourages mould, dust mites, and musty smells. A whole-home dehumidifier keeps humidity in the ideal range (40–60%). This can make your home feel fresher and help prevent mould before it starts.
03.
Vacuum Regularly
Dust, pet dander, and fine particles build up fast. Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter to trap allergens instead of blowing them back into the air. It’s also a good idea to dust with a damp cloth to stop particles from becoming airborne.
04.
Upgrade Your Air Filters
Standard AC filters only catch big particles, not tiny indoor air pollutants like smoke, bacteria, or allergens. Swap them for G4 rated or electrostatic filters to trap more contaminants and keep your indoor air cleaner.
05.
Get Air Purification
Air purifiers remove dust, allergens, and harmful chemicals from the air. They’re especially useful in bedrooms, living areas, and homes with pets or allergy sufferers.
06.
Ditch Artificial Air Fresheners
Scented candles, plug-in air fresheners, and aerosol sprays release harmful chemical fumes. If you want fresh-smelling air, try natural alternatives like essential oil diffusers or air-purifying plants.
07.
Stop Smoking And Minimise Cooking Fumes
Cigarette smoke and cooking fumes release fine particles and toxic gases. Use an extractor fan or range hood while cooking and never smoke indoors.
08.
Keep Your AC Clean
Your air conditioning circulates air through your home. So, if the filters and ducts are dirty, they’ll just spread dust and bacteria. Get your system maintained and cleaned regularly and consider a ducted air purifier for better filtration.
09.
Monitor Your Air Quality
A smart IAQ monitor (like the ones we mentioned earlier) tracks pollutants, humidity, and CO₂ levels. This means you can spot air problems early and fix them before they affect your family’s health.

Whole home dehumidification
Too much moisture in your home goes beyond discomfort. It creates an environment that’s a perfect breeding ground for mould, dust mites, and musty smells. High humidity can also make your air feel heavy and sticky, even when the temperature feels fine.
A whole-home dehumidifier is much like a ducted air conditioning system. The dehumidifier unit is located in your roof space with flexible ducts routed to each room. It automatically removes excess moisture from the air. A system like this keeps your home’s humidity at the ideal level to:
- Stop mould and mildew before they grow
- Reduce dust mites, which thrive in damp conditions
- Prevent musty smells in carpets, furniture, and walls
- Make your home feel fresher and more comfortable
If your home feels damp, smells musty, or has mould problems, a dehumidifier could be the perfect solution. Our whole-home dehumidifiers also have options to add UV, carbon filters and ionisers to the unit.
Ducted air purification add-ons
Put your ducted air conditioning system to work by adding air purification, tailored to target your specific indoor air quality concerns. These add-ons work seamlessly with your air conditioning system to combat pollutants before they circulate, addressing key issues:
- Chemical & Biological Contaminants: The APCO-X system tackles mould, bacteria, viruses, odours, and VOCs, neutralizing harmful substances at their source, creating a healthier breathing environment.
- Particulate Matter: G4 rated return air filters work well together with Enhance-Ion to capture fine particles like dust, pollen, pet dander, and smoke, significantly improving air filtration, and reducing allergy symptoms.
Operating silently and discreetly, these solutions eliminate the need for bulky standalone purifiers. Unlike single-room devices, they purify the air in every room connected to your ducted system, providing a comprehensive, set-and-forget approach to healthier indoor air.
UV Disinfection for Split System AC’s
If you rely on split system air conditioning, we’ve got exciting news! We now stock the Fresh-Aire mini UV LED add-on. It’s a compact, powerful UV purification system designed to kill mould and bacteria right at the source (inside your split system air conditioning unit). It works by using high-intensity UV-C LED light to destroy harmful microbes before they circulate through your home.
- Reduces mould growth by 99% in just 6 hours
- Kills bacteria and viruses lurking inside your AC
- Prevents bad smells caused by mould build-up
- Helps your AC run cleaner and more efficiently
- Completely silent with no maintenance required
Unlike traditional UV lights, this energy-efficient LED system lasts for over 50,000 hours and fits seamlessly inside your air con unit. If you want to stop mould and bacteria in their tracks, this is the perfect upgrade for your split system AC.
The Air We Breathe
Our Co-Founder’s Story
For over a decade, crippling migraines were my constant companion. They’d strike without warning, knocking me out for days, stealing precious time with my family and forcing me to miss work. I tried everything – medications, brain scans, countless specialists. Nothing worked. Ten years of frustration… it was unbearable.
Then, I started looking closer to home. A pattern began to emerge. My migraines almost always started in the morning. Something in my house was triggering them while I slept. I was determined to find the culprit. That’s when I discovered the Uhoo air quality monitor.
The results were shocking. Huge spikes in VOCs (volatile organic compounds) every time my mum, who occasionally stayed with me, used hairspray in the mornings. Unknowingly, I’d been breathing in these pollutants all night, and my body was reacting violently.
That discovery changed everything. I installed a REME HALO LED air purifier to tackle the VOCs. While I was at it, I decided to check my ducted air conditioning system. What I found made my stomach churn – mould! After a deep clean and installing UV lamps to prevent it from returning, the difference was life-changing. The migraines became less frequent, I slept better, and my energy levels soared. I felt like a new person!
But I didn’t stop there. Through continued monitoring, I discovered even small air pressure imbalances in my bedroom were leaving me feeling sluggish and drained in the mornings. The simple fix? Leaving the bedroom door open slightly overnight to reduce air pressure. It felt like it made a world of difference.
My experience with migraines and the impact of air quality completely transformed my life. It showed me just how crucial clean air is to our health and well-being.Â
