WHAT IS AN INVERTER AIR CONDITIONER?

Older fixed speed air conditioning systems were either ON running at 100% capacity or OFF. Inverter systems have the ability to vary their capacity by speeding up or slowing down, when you first turn an inverter air conditioner on it will run at 100% capacity to bring your home down to a comfortable temperature as quickly as possible & it will then reduce its capacity to save energy, some systems can reduce their capacity down to 25-30% of their rated capacity.

WHAT IS PEAKSMART?

Peaksmart air conditioning by Energex helps manage demand on the energy grid reducing the maximum frequency of your air conditioner at times of high energy demand.

In exchange for opting into Peaksmart, you may be eligible for a rebate when your air conditioner installed.

WHAT SIZE AIR CONDITIONER DO I NEED FOR MY HOME?

There are a lot of variables that determine what size ducted air conditioner is going to be the perfect solution for your home. As part of your obligation free in-home consultation, we will measure the areas in your home that require heating and cooling which, after learning how you would like to use your air conditioner, will allow us to confirm the right system for the job.

WHAT TEMPERATURE SHOULD I SET MY AIR CONDITIONER?

We find that most people find 24 degrees in summer & 21 degrees in winter the most comfortable temperature set point for their ducted air conditioner.

CAN I COVER OR HIDE THE OUTDOOR AIR CONDITIONER UNIT?

While we make every effort to position the outdoor unit in the least obtrusive place possible, sometimes the visual impact is unavoidable. If this is the case, we may be able to provide some suggestions to hide the outdoor unit but we strongly advise against building any form of cover over your air conditioner as it will reduce the performance of your system.

HOW CAN I SAVE MONEY ON MY POWER BILLS WHEN USING MY AIR CONDITIONER?
  • We suggest installing room temperature sensors in each zone, this prevents rooms from overcooling & instead pushes air to the rooms where it is needed most!
  • Ensure you have your air conditioner serviced at least every 12 months
  • Clean your return air filters every three months or whenever they are noisier than usual
  • Set your air conditioner to 24 in summer & 21 in winter; it’s estimated that every degree you go below 24 in summer increases your power bill by up to 10%!
HOW DOES THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY RATING SYSTEM WORK?

Air conditioners have dual star ratings on them, the blue stars represent cooling & red heating, the more stars the more energy-efficient the air conditioner. Some air conditioners have a special “Super efficiency rating” on the label, this means the air conditioner is extra efficient.

The other important info shown on the label is:

  • Capacity Output Kw – This is let’s you know how much cooling or heating capacity the air conditioner has.
  • Power Input kW – This tells you how much power the air conditioner needs to run, the lower the number the more efficient.
WHERE CAN I FIND YOUR TERMS OF TRADE?

Our terms of trade can be found here or attached to your invoice.

DUCTED AIR CON

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO INSTALL DUCTED AIR CONDITIONING?

For smaller single storey homes ducted air conditioner installation will generally take only one day, larger two-storey homes will require two days.

For new home builds air conditioner installation takes place over three site visits as follows:

  • Rough-in – This is completed once your frame is up & the roof has gone on.
  • Cut Outs – This takes place as soon as your gyprock goes up.
  • Fit Off – This is the final visit & this takes place on the day the electrician provides power to the air conditioner.
WHAT IS THE BEST BRAND OF DUCTED AIR CONDITIONER?

We believe in providing our consumers with a selection of the best ducted air conditioning brands in Australia; we do not favour any one particular brand. That being said Panasonic appears to be the prefered brand of both our customers and our technicians.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO INSTALL DUCTED AIR CONDITIONING?

The below can be used as a guide as to the cost of new ducted air conditioning in Brisbane:

Small Home: $8k-$11k
Medium Home: $11-15k
Large Home: $15k+

DOES DUCTED AIR CONDITIONING ADD VALUE TO YOUR HOUSE?

Ducted air conditioning is one of the best investments you can make in your home. It will boost your home’s total value and equity, but will also keep you comfortable! It is also a great way to increase sellability and add the wow factor for potential buyers.

DOES DUCTED AIRCON USE A LOT OF ELECTRICITY?

Using a properly designed & installed ducted air conditioning system does not cost much to run. For example, the most popular size of an air conditioner is 12.5kw, when this unit runs at full capacity it will cost around $1 per hour to run but the important things to remember is your unit will only run at full capacity when it is first turned ON. Once your house temperature comes down closer to your desired temper the air conditioner has less work to do & it will automatically reduce it’s capcaity to as low as 25% meaning it will only cost 0.25c per hour to run & help you save on your electricity bills.

WHAT IS REVERSE CYCLE DUCTED AIR CONDITIONING?

Reverse cycle ducted air conditioning systems allow you to both heat & cool your home for year-round comfort.

WHAT IS ZONING?

Zoning allows you to split your home up into different areas, or “zones”, closing off airflow to unoccupied rooms. Closing off unused areas will deliver more of the conditioned air to the zones that need it meaning they will hit your desired temperature sooner, allowing your air conditioning unit to run at a lower capacity & reduce its energy consumption.

How do you design a ducted air conditioner?

Our in-house ducted air conditioning design experts consider the following when designing a system for you:

  • Heat Load (from the sun, building materials, insulation, people etc)
  • Home design & construction
  • Number of occupants
  • Your ideal temperature
  • Air quality requirements
  • Electricity supply to the home
  • Available space in the roof
  • How you will use the air con

MYAIR

WHAT IS MYAIR?

MyAir, by Advantage Air, is an industry-leading smart air conditioning controller designed and manufactured in Australia. It allows you to split your home into up to 10 different zones, allowing you to close off areas that aren’t in use to run your air conditioning more energy efficiently. Additionally, you can control the system from your Android or iOS device, allowing you to securely access and monitor your air conditioning from inside or outside of your home.

DOES MYAIR WORK FROM ANY PHONE?

MyAir is controlled by the “MyPlace” app which is available for Android and iOS devices. It can be downloaded for free from the App Store for Apple devices and the Google Play Store for Android.

HOW DOES MYAIR MAKE THE AIR CONDITIONING MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT?

MyAir’s key energy efficiency feature is called “MyZone”. It gives you the ability to choose the area or zone that is the temperature setpoint for your air conditioning system. In a conventional ducted scenario, the air conditioning unit would read the temperature from wherever it draws the air from, most likely the hallway. Utilising the MyZone feature, you can choose the room you are using as the temperature setpoint so that your air conditioner is catering to where you are, not somewhere you aren’t (like the hallway). This avoids overcooling and overheating, ensuring the unit reduces it’s capacity (saving you money) far quicker than it normally would in a conventional installation that doesn’t have MyAir with temperature sensors in each zone.

CAN MYAIR BE ADDED TO EXISTING DUCTED AIR CONDITIONING UNITS

MyAir is able to be retrofitted to most standard inverter ducted air conditioning systems that are between 1-10 years old. It is a fairly simple process to add the MyAir controller and zones to your existing system which allows you to keep all of your existing ductwork.

MyAir is compatible with most of the major brands including:

  • Panasonic
  • Mitsubishi Electric
  • Samsung
  • LG
  • TECO
  • Mitsubishi Heavy Industries
  • Daikin
  • Fujitsu
  • Toshiba
  • Carrier
  • Midea
  • MDV
  • Gree
  • Rinnai
  • Hitachi
  • Temperzone (Some models only)
  • Actron (Some models only)

AIR PURIFICATION

HOW DOES ACTIVE AIR PURIFICATION WORK?

The purification process begins with the ionisation of water vapour already present in our humid Queensland air. These ions are distributed throughout your home via your ducted system, seeking out and deactivating contaminants like allergens, mould, bacteria and viruses on surfaces and throughout the air. As contaminants are neutralised, the ions revert to harmless water vapour and the purification cycle repeats.

HOW DO AIR PURIFIERS HELP WITH HAY FEVER AND OTHER ALLERGIES?

An active air purifier integrated with your ducted air conditioning system is a powerful combination to fight common airborne allergens, germs, viruses, spores and household odours. The ionised water vapour spreads throughout your home via your ducted system, reducing these contaminants by up to 99%.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ADD AN AIR PURIFIER TO MY DUCTED AIR CONDITIONER?

Adding an ionising air purifier to your ducted air conditioning system will generally cost around $2499 inc GST fully installed. It is easy to justify adding this to your system when you consider the years of clean, allergen, germ and odour free air this will provide for your family.
